Mapping & Routes 

Here are some useful mapping / route links to plan and convert into a GPS route for a handheld GPS (Garmin Gecko 201 - A Sale bargain before I'd even started to plan this adventure).

• Google Maps

This where the maps come from using the 'Link' button - after the routes have been massaged to fit in my GPS from directions across th web and books and 'fettled' to the right format - without Waypoints to get in the way.

You can also use it to 'Get Directions' to generate and then fine tune a route for export to/from the GPS.

• GMap to GPX

This site has a Toolbar button which you can use to export a 'GPX' file from directions on Google Maps which can be used with a GPS and / or converted to use with Google Earth.

• GPSBabel

This site has a nifty program whih converts and filters all sorts of GPS file formats.  I use to transform GPX Waypoints to Route data using the 'Filter' for the GPS and to convert to/from the Google Earth KML file format. And then manually remove extraneous 'stuff' to make a path for Google Maps.

• EasyGPS

This site has another nifty program which I use to transfer GPS info to/from my handheld GPS and edit up the routes.

Web 

• Synthasite  now YOLA

This site lets you build web pages from scratch and even less knowledge - and the geeks will spot my bbbr.org.uk is a 'front' for the site built, hosted and maintained on synthasite / yola.

• Calories 

A nifty little calculator for calories used that ties in with my HRM watch and 'gut feeling' based on the usual exertion scale in comparison with the Cross Trainer etc..
